Let's taco 'bout it!
- Sharon had great luck with this Chicken Tikka Masala recipe from Pinch of Yum. By the way, POY's Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe is SO good and easy. Winter had Grilled Polenta appetizer and entree Saumon En Croute at Gourmandise Bakery in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Food Myth #1: You can only prepare raw meat on plastic cutting boards. Myth! Here's the research from Dean Cliver, PhD on cutting boards and food safety.
- Food Myth #2: You need to rinse your chicken before using it. Myth! During the rinsing process, you may actually contaminate other surfaces, PLUS, you will be applying heat (aka cooking) your chicken. Some big name chefs, continue to tout that you should rinse your chicken. The FDA says otherwise.
Wash your chicken? |
- Food Myth #3: You need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Myth! This started in 1945 US Food and Nutrition Board came out and said you need 2.5 liters of water a day, but everyone ignored the following sentence that said you could get a lot of the needed water through prepared foods.
- Food Myth #4: An alcoholic nightcap will help you sleep better. Myth! Alcohol can make you get to sleep faster, but beyond that, this is a myth! In fact, you are going to mess up your sleeping pattern according to studies at the Henry Ford Health Systems.
- Food Myth #5: Salt will lower the boiling point and make your water boil faster. Myth! Salt actually causes boiling point elevation. However, when salt is added when it's close to boiling, the salt provides many more nucleation sites for bubbles, so it appears to help water boil faster.
- Our Food Fight listener is struggling with no room in the freezer. Remember, the life changing magic of tidying up! And cook and shop your own fridge and freezer. Also, use bins for organization.
