Episode 117: Caffeine and Taste

Monday, November 26, 2018
We are full swing into the holiday season and we need a little caffeine to get us through. We discuss what happens in our bodies when we consume caffeine, how it affects our taste and perception of taste, and why we are so addicted to it! Plus, we talk about tiny rubber spatulas and Kerrygold butter.

Let's taco 'bout it!

Let's taco 'bout it!

  • Food Nerd Shoutout: Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway for dietitian Claudia Wilson's One Two Punch Gift Basket Giveaway and gave us great ideas of great One Two Punch food combos (salmon and rice, chicken and quinoa/brown rice, PB and banana, and spicy beef noodle soup). If you didn't get a chance to listen to that fun episode, you can listen here!
  • Let's Dig into the Kitchen Drawer: Winter likes her Tovolo Mini Spatulas (or Spatulart), because they are useful for getting sticky stuff (peanut butter, cookie butter, corn syrup, etc) out of smaller measuring cups and spoons or out of the original bottle or jar. Winter's rating: 4 out of 5 stars (because she really uses them only for a couple months out of the year for holiday baking).

  • Caffeine's chemical name is trimethylxanthine.
  • You can read all about those articles on caffeine here and here.

  • Introducing Interesting Ingredients: Kerrygold butter has higher butterfat and is banned in Wisconsin.

Run Time: 49 minutes
