Let's taco 'bout it!
- Sharon headed to Penzey's for some Granulated Garlic Powder for her garlic bread, while Winter ate some Japanese Curry (this is the kind we use) with Tofu and some Bacon-Wrapped Tofu at a neighborhood dutch-oven cook-off. Challenge accepted!
- Because of this week's total solar eclipse, the political climate, and Hurricane Harvey, we decided to chat about survival food. If you can, please donate to the American Red Cross for those who are affected by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey.
- You can watch this video on how to make your own hardtack. Make sure to store properly, so you don't have to skim off weevils later!
Not hardtack, but you get the picture |
- Here's this video on how to make your own pemmican by Skilled Survival. You can make it with berries or not.
- This episode kind of reminded us of our Meal Replacement episode and our Canning episode. Both very interesting!
- There are currently 24 varieties of Meal-Ready-to-Eat (MREs) and ability to survive a parachute and non-parachute drop.
- Real commercially-available candy, like Skittles or M&Ms, are usually included. And apparently, the Lemon Poppyseed Pound Cake is a good dessert per Ike.
- A 72-hour kit is great to have in all the places you are located (home, car, work). You can check out this and this resource to set up your own.
- The basic chemical reaction, an exothermic reaction, to heat up the MREs.
Safe drinking water |
- If you can manage to fill your bath tub up during an emergency, you can use the WaterBob.
- We both love the LifeStraw (single-use, kid-bottle version, and family-use ones) for keeping your water supply good. They help so many people have access to clean water around the world! Winter's sister @girlwiththepassporttattoo swears by the LifeStraw!
- Check out the Ark Two Shelter--whoa!
- We put in our vote during a Food Fight quickie question: Yay or nay for pineapple on pizza?
Run Time: 55 minutes
